The Mississippi River has been fishing well at times. We did a float last weekend on a cloudy morning by Monticello, and caught some nice fish on divers and poppers. It wasn't crazy, but there were a few crazy takes. Just as my blockhead was landing, a nice, big smallie just whaled on it from about 5 feet away in less than a foot of water. Water was flying everywhere on that one. Seems like fishing more subtle subsurface flies like leeches is better in fast water on the sunny days.
