Last week I got an offer I don't think anyone I know would refuse...A friend of mine offered to take me into a fly-in lake that hasn't seen more than 100 people in the last 10 years...We were fishing for largemouth bass which is a rare catch for me as I am usually guiding for walleye most of the time. So my friend, the pilot and I got the plans stamped out and the times organized. The 3 of us were landed by 10(would have been earlier but had to wait for the other planes to finish their runs). I got a map from the only person who has a place on the lake and got some pointers on structure and safe routes also. We hits some bays and started with topwater lures(always looking for the explosive stike). The fishing was good but the fish were small at first and the hits were somewhat unsatisfying. I changed up lures quite a number of times and for some reason always came back to the time tested spinnerbait. As the clouds moved in though the topwater bite got better and better and before long all 3 of us were throwing Rapala Skitter Pops in the #9 size. Anytime I saw a following fish or missed a fish I went after it with a tube jig and it turned out quite effective as a chase bait. Most of our fish were in the 2-3lbs range but were quite plentiful. I must say although the fish weren't trophy size, when you catch more than 100 fish in a day on a lake you have never been on it is quite a thrill. I must say that if you ever have a chance to take a trip into a lake on a plane don't pass it up.

I don't get to see too many of them on my usual days but you can't beat it when you do get into some. We had a great day today on Whitefish Bay catching largemouths...Average size was actually bigger too.
