Even though the lakes have a ton of Ice on them I still am anticipating the mad dash of fish to the shallows during the Late Ice period. I thought I'd start a post about where we should look to get on these fish and some tricks to catch them.

I typically look toward flats that have good weedgrowth as a prime starting location. Areas that see more sunlight will typically have some green standing weeds for the fish to relate to. I like to hole hop and try and stay on the active fish. This time of year is a good time to upsize to target the larger aggressive fish. Power Tubes and Power Minnows have been my mainstay for years but this year I plan on trying the Atomic Teasers along with some various Gulp! baits like the Fish Fry and 2.5" Minnows. Custom Jigs and Spins Ratso's are another proven producer for these active fish. The sky is the limit when it comes to dialing in on the best presentation.

I can't wait to get out and find these Late Ice fish. Just remember to practice Selective Harvest so we will have good fishing in the future.
