Wow, what a grest Spring so far! The lakes have warmed up so fast that the fish have been on a tear. Bluegills and Crappies are rushing to the shallows looking for food and favorable water temperatures for Spawning. If you witness water temperatures nearing 65 than the fish might start spawning soon! Remember to practice Selective Harvest so we can have better fishing in the futrue.
Recommended baits for this time of year... Berkley Power Tubes/Minnows/grubs Berkley Gulp-Maggots/grubs/spikes Exude Micro shads/grubs Northland Mimic Minnows Flu-flu's tipped with live or artificial bait 1/64, 1/32 and 1/16oz jigheads. Good fishing, Corey Bechtold |

Well, the Crappies have begun their spring ritual. The males have turned a darker black and are in the shallows protecting their spawning sites. The fish will take most offerings but I have been having my best luck with Berkley 2" Power Minnows fished on a 1/32oz jighead under a Thill float.
Casting the bait around any vegitation like rushes, timber or emerging lillypads gets the most strikes. I will typically twitch the bait around the cover giving the fish a chance to come in and take the bait. Look for water temperatures in the mid to upper 60's and most likely you will be able to find some aggressive Panfish. Good fishing, Corey Bechtold may_fishing_pics_001.jpg (87 Kb, 64 downloads) |
