I see catfish rods for very little money compared to a good muskie rod and personally dont see the major difference...Looking for a 8 ft rod to use probably only 1 week a year as a third rod in the boat...Would a catfish rod(ugly stick makes one for about 40.00) work about the same...My budget doesnt like paying 150.00or more...Thanks
what do you expect to be able to do with the rod?? Is your third rod going to be there only if the other two break? Is it going to be for casting magdawgs or a different type of bait that you do not normally use?? Or is the rod going to be in your regular rotation? Catfish rods are generally a much slower action and are made from fiberglass instead of graphite, as they are meant for things more along the lines of deadbaiting and not casting.
If your question of will they work is meant to ask will it break while casting for muskies? The answer is probably not, but the rod is not going to be as effective as a musky rod. You should look at the Shimano compre, retail around 109.99 and this weekend at the spring sale they are 20% off. Hope this help
BTW trolling is different, my trolling rod is a custom E glass from St Croix, which was originally built with catfishing in mind
