Heading out to Tonka after work today. Been spending all my time on Bald Eagle and White Bear lately. How have people been doing on Tonka? Anyone feel like giving up a hot spot? Last time I was out on Tonka was the week of muskie opener. I usually launch in Spring Park Bay next to the sheriff station and hit the first two islands. Don't know many spots on the lake - just learning that massive body of water. Any tips, advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Personally haven't spent much time up in that area, but when I was out last week exploring new spots, all of the bait was off the deep break in 15-22ft. Fish weren't chasing, but they were biting.

Follows, follows and more follows. Frustrating!!! Is it still early and the water isn't quite warm enuf to turn them on yet? The surface temp. was nearly 70 degrees on Tonka yesterday and although there were boaters and jet skis everywhere, I had multiple follows from slow moving muskies just behind my bait. I tried slowing way down while throwing a giant stalker and had a massive muskie follow it up and right under my boat. She sank back into the darness as I made wide, deep figure 8's. Also had a pretty thick fish closely following a 30" pike my partner was letting thrash and splash at the side of the boat. I feel like I must be doing something wrong to be seeing so many follows and have yet to boat a ski this season.
Lee- A slow presentation with a Bulldawg has been working well, stay on the fish that you have been seeing most likely there will be some friends in the area. fish just outside the immature milfoil, probably shallower than your used to, because the weeds aren't that high yet.
Check out skiepatrol.com for some Tonka motivation. Hoyer has been on a fish a day pattern for 2 weeks, with a couple multiple fish days in the mix, you'll definitely get your moneys worth on a trip w/ him out there in June.

Heading back out to Tonka today after work. (2:00) Spent the 4th out there with a walleye pro - throwing for muskies. The nicest boat I've ever fished from (20' Ranger). The bass were hot and we caught a few pike and a small ski about 32" I've been pounding the same couple of islands and points where I've consistantly seen larger muskies. Hope they get hungry one of these days. Any musky hunters heading out to Tonka today? I'll be out there by my lonesome - if anyone would like to meet me in exchange for a trip later in the week to another lake, feel free to shoot me a message. lsmith@minntech.com
