Looking for any tips or advice from guys who regularly fish White Bear Lake. I've been hearing good things and am heading out there tonight or tomorrow. I've only fished it twice and that was last fall. I didn't have the Lowrance GPS I have now so, I relied on a crappy lake map and trolled 12" jakes both times with no success. Hitting it after dark and I'm curious where some good spots might be to try. I figure I'll be throwing bull dawgs and home made cowgirls. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

I would start on the deep weed edges out in like 17-18ft. Honestly any deep weed edge is good and often I launch my boat and start fishing once I hit the first weededge. If you come into contact with fish on the deep weededge, all around the peninsula and island are good as well as the whole east side. If they aren't out there, look inside weededge or open water, which is find the baitfish. The inside weededge fishing I haven't done too much of, but when we have done it we have run into bigger sized fish.

Thanks, Vinje. I really appreciate your advice. I've been taking my brother out a lot lately, he's never caught a musky. I'm trying to get him his first so he gets as hooked on fishing them as I am. We casted bull dawgs and bucktails til about midnight last night. We stuck around the first underwater ledge near the buoys just out from the HWY 61 boat launch. Then we hit both of the two main points from the shallows to 40' of open water. No follows, no fish but, we'll be at it again tonight and this weekend. Saw a couple guys real close to us land a monster at around 10:00. Next time we'll try to inside weed edge. Thanks again.

Lee, I know what you mean when you talk about trying to get your brother his first! I get more excited watching other guys catch their first fish! I have fished WBL a few times this year and last. Have had zero luck...no follows..nothing...until last night! Around 10:00pm Smiler I think you saw us! Took my neighbor out for his first time muskie fishing and well..he boated his 1st muskie! 46" real nice fish! Good luck Lee! I won't be out tonight so the "secret" spot is yours!

That's awesome that he caught one his first time out. We saw you guys land it and we could hear it pounding the floor of your boat so I figured it was a bruiser. Good job putting him on his first! Yeah, that was us right off the point by you two! From the sounds of it - he was pretty excited too! If I can get my brother to hook into one it will make my whole season. He hasn't even had a follow yet. Oh well, metro lakes, pressured fish - it takes a lot of time. Taking him to the big pond soon so, I'm pretty confident I can put him on some action out there. Congrats on a good catch, Frenchie. See you on the water!

Hit the bear again this weekend - HARD. Friday, Saturday and Sunday put in at least six hours of casting. Friday and Saturday we pulled the graveyard shift and raised some really nice muskies but, they seemed slow moving, almost lethargic. We had multiple 40+ fish and one 50+ boatside but couldn't get them to even react to every single bait you can think of. Overall - very frusrating.

try upsizing (pounders/ supergirl) and or speed way up or slow way down. I know they like big out on the bear.

Thanks for the advice, Vinje. I throw mostly home made bucktails, Jakes and Storm Kickin minnows. My bucktails are double blade #10's and #13's and are topped with 6" ribbontails. Most measure about 15" long but, I haven't tried the pounders out there yet. I've got some ideas cooking about slowing way down. Thanks again for the tips.

Like I read in Muskie Hunter....Slow and steady at night with the bucktails! So the fish can track the bait! I'm not saying really slow but you know what your doing Lee. If you had that many follows your on the right track. Just probably a couple days to late. I fished Deer Lake, WI on Friday night and lost a good one on the same bucktail my friend caught his muskie with on White Bear! NOW THATS FRUSRATING!!! but a lucky lure I guess! Good luck guys!
