I have an Abu Garcia 6500 C3 reel I purchased last spring and I was wondering how often someone should clean and oil their reel? I was also wondering the proper way to clean a reel like this.? I obviously wasn't thinking when I threw the box for the reel away. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can bring it in to Thorne and we will send it to Wayzata bait. They do a great and thorough job cleaning/lubing. It usually comes out around $18.50 (i think). I would recommend doing that every other year....or if it’s getting a lot of use...every year. Things like ball bearings, drag washers....wear out over time. But you should also oil and clean it every so often on your own. All you have to do is scrub the dirt and grit off the reel under the faucet, dry it off and apply the oil given to you by the company. You want to apply it to the worm gear...three drops or so and run it a few times, and also take off the brake cap and put 1 or 2 drops in there as well.
