Anyone have any suggestions for fishing on White Bear Lake or Bald Eagle in the North East Metro? I just moved down to the area from up north and plan to start fishing these two waters a lot this season.
I was able to fish White Bear two times in the late fall, but did not have much luck. Anyone have any lure or color recommendations for these two lakes? I have read a few things online about White Bear Lake, but the information was pretty broad. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
I am certainly not a PRO, but I have fished White Bear quite a bit. One of the biggest things with fishing this lake is the overall pressure and activity on the lake. In the summer months, there are boats everywhere. With the marina and Yacht club there are sail boats and other recreational water toys running all over.
It gets frustrating at times, but there are some nice fish on this lake. I have had luck using Firetiger or Green/Yellow/Chart Llungen tails or spinners. I have heard that white is a good color for White Bear, but have not had any luck.
Try fishing around the island/peninsula, on all three sides. Try fishing towards dusk, there is less traffic on the lake and virtually no traffic at night.
I fish them both...Bald Eagle daily and White Bear 3+ times per week. Bald Eagle, I use smaller stuff and fish the small bays and rocks..White Bear you can fish the quiet bays with jerk baits or go deep!
Don't waste your time fishing Bald Eagle, I'd spend those precious hours on White Bear instead. Fished BE three times so far with not so much as a follow, fished it hard last year day and night, the results were less than impressive.
I know there's some beasts in BE but, I would rather spend time on a lake that produces results. Good luck out there.
glad to see there are some posts coming in on this forum...what its all about. WB and bald eagle can be a bear. Just as said before...the less traffic the better. from what i have found.....Bald eagle can be very good early when the milfoil is low and the boat traffic is at a minimum. WB is great during the quiet times...early or late at least from my experience.
Been fishing Bald Eagle every day so far and finally had a good day in between storms yesterday. Had some nice follows and lost one, then right when the rain came again, I boated a very nice fish. I will try and get picture on here.
I have not fished Bald Eagle, but White Bear is fun. There always seems to be fish off the deep weeds, even if fish are piled in shallow. I have done well with lowriders, tsunamis, bulldawgs, cowgirls, suicks depthraiders, CJ's spinnerbaits in three different sizes, AP lures, in short a number of different baits work out there. Like marc said early and late are awesome times to be out there. When fishing the deep weed edge stay off the edge a couple of feet. Don't be scared to fish open water if you see schools of bait out there. If you have the time find some good shallow water spots.

Threw 6" jakes and small homemade bucktails on Bald Eagle again last night. Put in a good 4 hours of casting, not so much as a follow. I believe there are nice one's in there, I've seen them boated but, never hooked up with a BE musky. Done with it until fall, I'll be on White Bear if I'm fishing that side of the metro again.
