Britt, I've been a fan of Cortland Spectron for years. I like the thin diameter, water sheding capabilities, limpness of the line and the colors.
However, I'm allways looking to improve. I understand that the Cortland Masterbraid also has spectron fibers, is a rounder line (supposed to cast better/farther, and less backlashes due to being rounder than Cortland Spectron). Also, the Masterbraid, I hear has more stiffness, and takes on a little more water than the Spectron (which I don't think is a bad thing, due to the line sinking a bit more).
Please correct me on any of these points, because I'm just going on what I've read/heard.
What is it about the Masterbraid Bronzeback that you like so much? I understand that with anything there is an element of personal preference. From what I've been reading the Masterbraide is supposed to combine all the features of Spectron plus the stiffness and a new coating. Lastly, does the bronzeback (brown) when using in clear water blend in, or is another color better for this condition, is Masterbraid an improvement (bit of a loaded question), but I value your opinions. Thanks, Al B.

Hey Al, My two favorite lines are Tuff line plus and Cortland master braid. To me they are very equal in all qualities but one, and that is water resistance. Tuff line can be very absorbent which is a pain in the later parts of the year. That is why I like Cortland better, it doesn’t retain the water that Tuff line does. Other than that they are both really good options and very reliable. Just Cortland is a lot better when it gets to be cold. I also have never really noticed a difference when it comes to line color. In my opinion, I really don’t think it matters all that much. I am sure there are people that feel differently....I just personally dont think it matters. hope this helped ya! britt
Britt, for sure, your info, is alot of help. I'm going to get some of the Masterbraid Bronzeback from the shop. I'll put it on that new Calcutta 700 B I got from ya a while back. Thanks Al B.

My question is..ripping weeds is becoming a early season advantage. Tuffline XP even thought it is stiffer and does not pack the line as good as tuffline plus, its narrower diameter and stiffness seems to clear the weeds better....does the weed cutting over rule...(I usually start with a a fresh spool on all my reels every year).....
I think the cortland and tuff line work just fine for rippin through weeds.....at least I haven’t noticed any issues. As long as I’m givin the bait a good snap, the line will rip through it. Britt
