Well thorne bros employee Matt Fritze and myself made the trip sat to mille lacs. we headed out to the flats. we found the ice to be 5 inches or so, plenty safe for 4 wheelers/snowmobiles....or in our case by foot. there are some slush spots out there, so if you are on a sled that would be something to look out for. we had some auger troubles so we only had a limited amount of holes punched. We ended the day with 6 total fish, one was over the slot at 22inches and the other fish were keepers between 18-19. We also lost two fish a piece. i caught the largest ciscoe i have ever seen, so that was interesting. the fist fish came off a thorne deadstick with a red hook/shiner and split shot.....the rest of the fish caught and lost were with 1/4 northland buckshot rattle spoons tipped with a fathead's head. using a thorne walleye sweetheart and an outside perch sweatheart. switched to 4 lb gamma this year for walleye fishing and am liking it so far....its like having a 6-8lb test with a 4lb diameter. there were fish lighting up the screens throughout the day....most were not that active...relatively light bite for us. the five keepers were eating well, all of them were VERY full of baby perch after cleaning them. i will post some pics later tonight! go get em
