Several lakes across the state are beginning to ice up. Shorelines are seeing more and more ice every morning and some of the smaller bodies of water are already seeing a few anglers attempting to jig up a few early ice fish. PLEASE USE CAUTION when on the ice as many of the lakes are not ready for ice fishing. Go with a buddy and when in doubt don't go out.

Reports of 1-3" on some of the Duluth Area lakes and 2" on Upper Red...

I chipped a hole in the ice today on a small lake near LOTWs and sat on the edge of the dock and finally got in some ice fishing. Marked a few but put nothing on the ice. I will be trying to get in a few more hours before I head down for the sports show. The ice was approx. 3 inches with 3 inches of snow cover. Still awhile before I start running the sled and pulling the hut. The weather reports are calling for temps below 0F for most of the week and this weekend.
